MONROVIA — An advocate for residents of the Homestead subdivision north of Monrovia was appointed to Darrell Dennis’ empty plan commission seat. During Monday’s Monrovia Town Council meeting, Bob Marley, council president, congratulated Philip Fowler for his hard work in the neighborhood and thanked him for his interest in the community.

Dennis, a Nazarene minister, moved to Florida, and town officials have been looking for a replacement.

Fowler is a retired United States Marine Corps gunnery sergeant and once chaired a neighborhood association in another state. Fowler got some other residents to voice their opinions on a rezoning case this spring, which he felt would negatively affect Homestead. The subdivision was begun by C.P. Morgan, which pulled out of the project earlier this year. Neighbors have since been struggling with issues like pool and common area maintenance, annexation, lighting and future building plans.

He will be sworn in at the Dec. 8 plan commission meeting.
